Fishing in Pensacola Beach during the month of September can be very productive. Fishing in the Gulf out of Pensacola Beach in September is amazing. The first 14 days of the month, practically all species are in season to harvest. Gag grouper are open September 1-14th along with red snapper. Red snapper will also be in season every Fri, Sat, and Sun through the rest of the year. Along with these species you can also keep amberjack for the first time this 2025 season. Amberjack fishing in Pensacola Beach can be very good as long as you can get them to the boat before they get you in the bottom! Amberjack are one heck of a fight and great table fare. Along with amberjack we also catch vermillion snapper, mangrove snapper, lane snapper,triggerfish, and the occasional red grouper. All of the aforementioned fish are caught bottom fishing with either cut bait or live bait. Other than bottom fishing, we also do some trolling when the bait is plentiful. Trolling in September in Pensacola Beach can produce king mackerel, spanish mackerel, bonita, and if you are extremely lucky, the random blackfin tuna or sailfish might get hooked!
Other than fishing in the Gulf, we also fish Pensacola Bay. The bay bite picks up as the water in the bay cools off. Fishing in the bay, you can expect to see a few redfish, trout, flounder, and occasionally sharks. All of these fish are targeted by fishing around structure with live bait. The livebait in the bay is plentiful, and the fish are on the hunt searching for their next meal. Although the bay bite is better in September than the few months before, it can still be fishing; these fish feed depending on the tide. Bay fishing is a good option for anyone looking for a good few pulls that don’t want to venture out in the Gulf, great for beginners!
